Questions

Frequently asked questions

From importing your menu to managing several locations – the answers to the questions we hear most often.

Creating your menu

Can I import my existing menu?
Yes. Just upload a PDF or a photo of your menu. Go-Menu automatically transfers the dishes and prices into your new menu. If something can't be read or matched cleanly, Go-Menu flags it for you. You can step in, correct and add to it at any time. The final approval of the menu is always yours.
Can I create several menus?
Yes. You can create separate food, drinks and wine menus, for example. Daily menus, weekly menus, seasonal menus or menus for events (weddings, company parties and so on) are possible too. You can create up to 10 menus per restaurant (more on request).
Can I create menus for different restaurants?
Yes. In Go-Menu you can set up several restaurants and create separate menus for each of them. The first restaurant is included in the price; each additional restaurant raises your monthly subscription by €3.90 (see the price list).
Can I automatically translate my menu into other languages?
Yes. Go-Menu translates your menu into up to eight languages at the tap of a button. When you change your menu, the translated menus are updated automatically as well. You can freely choose the source language of your menu. For example, you can create your original menu in Turkish and then translate it automatically into German and English. Çok basit!
Can I show symbolic images of my dishes?
Yes. On request, Go-Menu generates photorealistic symbolic images for your dishes. These images appear in the digital view of the menu, for example on your guests' phones. They are not shown in the printed version of your menu.
Does Go-Menu help me word my menu?
Yes. On request, Go-Menu suggests appealing descriptions for your dishes and helps you avoid spelling mistakes. Of course, you can edit the suggestions manually at any time.
Do I need design skills?
No. From hundreds of templates you choose the style as well as the format and layout of your printed menu (A5/A4/A3, one to three columns). Go-Menu takes care of the rest.
What do I do when a dish is sold out?
You can mark a dish as sold out in Go-Menu at any time, so that it immediately disappears for your guests. When the dish is available again, you can bring it back with a single click.
Can I highlight certain dishes on my menu?
Yes. You can mark dishes on your menu as "Recommendation", "Classic" or "New". These dishes are highlighted accordingly in both your digital and your printed menu. For your restaurant's commercial success we recommend using these labels deliberately and giving visible prominence to dishes that combine high guest satisfaction with a high contribution margin.

Your digital menu

"Digital menu" – what is that?
The digital menu appears on your guests' phones when they scan your QR code, open your Go-Menu web address or find you via Google Maps. It can also be opened on the desktop in a browser. The digital menu is therefore the logical counterpart to the printed menu. Designing the digital menu is free; publishing it online requires a paid subscription. (feature in preparation)
Why is the digital menu important for me?
Many diners explore the menus of several restaurants before their visit in order to choose one of them. The more appealing your menu looks and the easier it is to find, the greater your chance of winning new customers. If you don't offer your menu online, or only make a PDF or a blurry photo of it available, you risk customers deciding on a different restaurant.
How do customers find my digital menu?
Your customers find your menu easily online. As soon as you click "publicly visible" in Go-Menu, your menu is published online and, if you wish, made visible in your Google Maps profile (paid subscription required). When your guests scan your QR code with their phone or type your menu link straight into their browser, they also land on your digital menu. (feature in preparation)
At which link does my restaurant appear online?
Your restaurant is usually reachable online at the link "https://go-menu.de/YOURNAME". If your restaurant is called "Bei Charly", for example, your link could be "https://go-menu.de/bei-charly". You can enter and change your restaurant name yourself at any time (provided the link is not already taken by another restaurant). The link only works if you have a paid subscription and set your restaurant to "publicly visible".
What benefits does the digital menu bring my customers?
With the digital menu, your customers can pull up what you offer on their phone easily, whenever they like. Unlike a PDF you may have sent out in the past, they are always shown the current offer automatically - for example the weekly menu that is valid right now. Readability is optimised automatically for phone and desktop. Customers can also view your menu in their preferred language, or filter dishes specifically by allergens and additives.
How does the digital menu help me with marketing?
The digital menu is an important marketing tool. You can extend your advertising reach, for example, by sending the link to your digital menu to your WhatsApp or email list, or by handing out table stands with your QR code to the businesses around you. When staff want to go out for lunch, they simply scan your QR code at the office and see your current weekly menu right away. So the digital menu lets you reach more customers and get them interested in your restaurant.
Do I have to keep updating my digital menu?
With Go-Menu you maintain your menu data once, centrally, and save time as a result. When you change your menu data, mark a particular dish as sold out or adjust your prices, your changes are visible online to all customers instantly. Even customers you sent a link or a QR code to before the change always see the current version of your menu when they click the link or scan the code. This gives you the certainty that no outdated versions of your digital menu are in circulation.

Your printed menu

What benefits does the printed menu from Go-Menu offer?
With Go-Menu you get your digital and your printed menu from a single source. That saves you time and money, avoids mistakes and gives your restaurant a stylish, professional and consistent appearance. Layout and text flow happen automatically (including for later changes to the menu). Reorders are possible at any time at the tap of a button. Go-Menu produces your menus in high quality and delivers them straight to your restaurant - fast, affordable and reliable.
What design options do I have for my printed menu?
For your printed menu you can choose from hundreds of stylish design templates that express the individual character of your restaurant or café. Fonts, font sizes, colours and imagery are matched to each other automatically. The style of your printed menu is also carried over to your digital menu, unless you deliberately diverge from it. This way you ensure a professional, consistent appearance and strong recognisability.
Do I have to pay to create and design drafts?
No. Within a fair-use policy, you can create as many menu drafts as you like. Costs only arise when you want to publish your menus online, download them as high-resolution files or have them produced as printed menus.
Which menu holder systems are Go-Menu menus suitable for?
Go-Menu menus are suitable for common menu holder systems with and without transparent sleeves in the A5, A4 or A3 formats. They are also suitable for use on clipboards and menu boards, or can be ordered as a laminated, wipeable menu for indoor and outdoor use.
Which formats and layout options does Go-Menu offer?
In Go-Menu you can design menus in the A5, A4 and A3 formats. The text can be spread across one to three columns. Font sizes, line spacing, paragraph and page breaks are set to match your chosen style by Go-Menu. Likewise, the entire typesetting - including allergens, additives, notes and highlights - is handled automatically by Go-Menu.
Can I rework menu drafts manually?
Yes. You can download your menu drafts as an editable PowerPoint file and continue working on them yourself. This requires a paid subscription and a PC with PowerPoint installed.
Which paper quality is right for me?
If you use a menu holder system with transparent sleeves, double-sided printing on firm premium paper (220–250 g/m²) is ideal for you. The matte coating looks elegant and keeps the card from sticking to the sleeve. Double-sided printing helps you save costs. If you use clipboards or menu boards, you should choose single-sided printing on firm premium paper (220–250 g/m²). Our medium-weight paper (130–150 g/m²) is an affordable alternative for single-sided cards with a limited lifespan (e.g. weekly and event menus).
Does Go-Menu offer glossy papers too?
No. Our experience is that glossy papers are less suitable for hospitality, because fingerprints show more easily, the print rubs off more readily and the paper tends to stick to transparent sleeves. Go-Menu therefore offers exclusively high-quality coated matte paper with a pleasant, tactile feel.
Can I set the number of pages for my menu?
Within the limits set by the amount of text and its flow: yes. If you use a menu holder system with transparent sleeves that has a fixed page count (usually 4, 8 or 12 pages), you can specify the target page count when creating your menu. Go-Menu then optimises the text size and page breaks so that the number of pages you need is reached as closely as possible.
Do I have to have my menu printed by Go-Menu?
No. Alternatively you can download your menu drafts as high-resolution PowerPoint and PDF files, in order to edit them yourself, print them yourself or commission a print provider of your choice. Downloading the files requires a paid subscription.
What is my advantage in using the Go-Menu print service?
The Go-Menu print service is specialised for your needs as a restaurateur. Its particular strengths are: high-quality, borderless colour digital printing, high paper quality, fast and straightforward ordering directly from the Go-Menu platform, and a low price.

Your QR code

Does the QR code change when my menu changes?
No. The QR code stays the same for each restaurant. When your guests scan the QR code with their phone, they are automatically taken to the current version of your menu. So you don't need to worry about the QR code.
Do I need several QR codes if I have several menus?
No. The QR code doesn't refer to individual menus, but to your restaurant. Using the QR code, your guests always find all the menus you have activated for the restaurant (e.g. daily menu, evening menu and drinks menu). You can freely decide the order in which your menus appear on your guests' phones.
Can I print the QR code myself?
Yes. You can easily download and print the QR code, for example to use it as a poster or in your advertising. You can also use the QR code online or make it part of your email signature.

Allergens and additives

How does Go-Menu help me label allergens and additives?
The Go-Menu AI analyses the descriptions of your dishes to identify allergens and additives that are likely subject to labelling requirements under LMIV/LMIDV and ZZV. This saves you time maintaining your menu data. It's important that you carefully check and approve the AI's suggestions. Legal responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of the labelling rests solely with you.
Do allergens and additives appear in the digital and printed menu?
Yes. Allergens and additives appear both on your guests' phone or desktop and in your printed menu. This applies on the condition that you have fully checked and approved the allergens and additives. Legal responsibility for the accuracy of the allergens and additives rests solely with you.
What labels does Go-Menu allow beyond the legally required allergens and additives?
Go-Menu allows a wide range of voluntary labels for your dishes, for example to highlight vegan or vegetarian options, to give information about ingredients and spiciness, or to indicate religious suitability. Some examples of common labels are: "vegan", "vegetarian", "organically grown", "regional", "contains pork", "mildly spicy" through to "extra spicy", "halal" and "kosher".

Pricing and billing

Can I use Go-Menu for free?
Capturing and designing menus is free. A paid subscription is required to publish the digital menu and to download high-resolution print files. Printed menus can be ordered at any time even without a subscription and are billed separately.
What is the notice period for my subscription?
You can choose between a monthly and a yearly notice period. For a yearly notice period we grant a clear discount as per the price list. In either case the subscription is debited monthly.
Do I have full rights to menus created with Go-Menu?
You receive an unlimited right, in time and place, to reproduce, distribute, make publicly available and advertise menus created with Go-Menu for your business operations. Excluded is any misuse, in particular for training AI or building offerings that compete with Go-Menu. The fonts used are subject to the SIL Open Font License (OFL). You can find further details in the Terms and Conditions.
How does the fair-use policy for AI features work?
The AI features are designed for the normal use of a hospitality business. In the event of unusually high usage that significantly exceeds the expected need, Go-Menu can temporarily limit usage and contact you to agree on a suitable solution.
